A Plague Tale: Innocence

So… This will be short. I’m coming up on a milestone on my current draft, so not much else is happening besides that, but I wanted to make sure I used the day as intended, sooooooo….

This game initially came out in mid-2019. I’ve passed it countless times while browsing the Xbox Store, and it always looked intriguing, but I never gave it a shot. I’m not sure why, as everything about it looked right up my alley.

I finally sat down with it, and holy shit, what a great game. The story and gameplay are all great. The voice acting and the graphics. All of it. Whole package. It wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot if anyone else skimmed past it. It’s got stealth mechanics, combat, fire, and plague rat mechanics—giant sandbox traversal puzzles.

The biggest thing for me is the characters. Amicia and Hugo quickly became one of my favorite video game duos. Their sibling relationship is moving and tangible. Not since Hellblade have I found myself begging out loud at the characters I am controlling to find safety, get up, or fight. It’s just a great game on all fronts.

These are all screenshots from my own playthrough:

About halfway through, I found out there was a sequel. A Plague Tale: Requiem, which I have already started. It takes everything that worked in the first game and expands on it. It fixed a few of my frustrations with the first - namely, the crafting experience is much improved - and so far, it’s a hell of a ride.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is cool shit.

Here are some of the screenshots of Requiem I’ve taken so far. When I get enough time away from the manuscript to finish it, I’ll post about it.
