Shazam!

Fury of the Underwhelming but Still Kinda Cool

So, this is my first post since a) starting the Podcast and b) switching to substack. I’m going to start off with the usual nonsense…

I like most things. I’m easy to please when it comes to entertainment. My suspension of disbelief nob goes past eleven most of the time. And unless it’s something really rare, I don’t generally hate things. That doesn’t mean I love everything, but I do try to find the best in most things. So I don’t really do reviews, I just kinda geek out or don’t.

Anywho…

I like the first Shazam! It was a good time. So was this one. I’ll admit I fell asleep halfway through on the first attempt but that might say more about me than it does the movie.

It was enjoyable but the whole time I kept thinking, I would love this movie if I were between the ages of eight and twelve. Which is maybe the point. My kids are all teenagers of various degrees and their desire to watch it was a definitive, “Meh.”

The standouts here, as with previous movies are the younger cast, as well as Cooper Andrews who is always fun to watch. I see you, Jerry from TWD, and one of the most underrated characters on the show. I expected way more fire from Dame Helen Mirren but it looks like she had an easy fun go of it.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods, while underwhelming, was semi-cool shit.

Overall, I give it 3 Kinda Cools since it made me laugh some, 1 WTF?, and 1 Meh.
