Eddington
Look. I know we’re probably going to disagree on Eddington. I loved it and I really just like Ari Aster’s work but we know I’m a terrible critic because I love pretty much everything. For proof, just look at my lists. I only dislike 6 movies.
Everyone here brings their A game. Phoenix is hauntingly dislikable in the most realistic way possible. We all know this person. He is someone we used to respect, even love, but over the years as the propaganda and fear ate away at their ability to be descerning in their regard for others, we’ve had to distance ourselves from them.
It sucks and it hurts but there is still some little part of him, that feels like it can be saved. Phoenix doesn’t play a villain here, just a person. It’s weird how each one of these characters is a parody but just barely enough, that they still feel like real people.
I loved it. It was like a rollercoaster of awkward cringing and ironic laughter. Up and down, over and over until suddenly, it went off the rails and everyone is horrified into silence. It was awesome.
