Traumatika

Synopsis via Letterboxd:

Mikey’s night terrors become reality when his mother begins showing signs of demonic possession. What he’s about to experience will haunt him for the rest of his life and claim countless lives across generations.

It’s fine but not as advertised. Reading other reviews I feel like I watched a different movie entirely. While It is a high quality independent film and the gore is very well done without being over the top—the most horrific parts of the movie are contextual and thematic—there wasn't really anything that really got me. Long story short, while it’s definitely overhyped, it’s not a bad flick by any means and is still fairly effective.

My biggest complaint is probably also the most important:

It is absolutely terrible at navigating the themes of Trauma it seems to be attempting to analyze. It’s drunk-juggling things it should be carefully handling with nuance.
