Stella Maris by Cormac McCarthy
POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!
It’s been a bit since I’ve posted but these drafts have been hanging about so I’m trying to get them out.
“Stella Maris blew my mind by changing the context of the entire other novel.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!
It’s been a bit since I’ve posted but these drafts have been hanging about so I’m trying to get them out.
”Also, kudos to Marvel for finally getting around to including one of my all-time favorite villains since I was a kid.”
The Passenger by Cormac McCarthy
the passenger exists in a world where the questions are more important than the answers; a world where people talk about science and mathematics over dinner or in bars, as if it were normal and that sounds absolutely fantastic to me.
A Plague Tale: Innocence
This game initially came out in mid-2019. I’ve passed it countless times while browsing the Xbox Store, and it always looked intriguing, but I never gave it a shot. I’m not sure why, as everything about it looked right up my alley.
2022 Albums of the Year
My favorite 25 albums of 2022. In no particular order other than alphabetical by artist name.
The Pale Blue Eye
I’m not even sure what to say about Scott Cooper’s newest film other than that he is definitely - literally without fail - one of the most consistently fantastic directors currently working.
The Menu
No single film has ever made me want a cheeseburger more than this one.
The Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
Since it’s been a bit since I’ve done one of these, I want to point out that I don’t really do reviews. I just kind of geek out at shit. I’m not even going to pretend that the anticipation for this movie didn’t almost kill me through most of 2022. I loved Knives Out. Like, really, really. I’ve watched it probably a dozen times in three years.
Long Tunnel Out of Hell
It’s been a long last few years of batshit crazy bullshit…
GoT: The Iron Throne (Spoilers)
Oof… this didn’t age well at all. Holy shit. In hindsight I can see how stoked I was but after traveling a bit further down the road, I can see the giant pile of waste that was this finale blotting out the horizon.
GoT: The Bells (Spoilers)
This also didn’t age well in hindsight.
GoT: The Last of the Starks (Spoilers)
This one will be quick. I'm going to talk about my issues with the episode first and end in an attempt at defending it because conflicted is my middle name.
GoT: The Long Night (Spoilers)
However, I would like to say, fuck Melisandre. Not that she didn’t serve her purpose but, I’m good with that. In Shireen Baratheon’s name, we pray.
GoT: Winterfell & A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (Spoilers)
Part of the reason for this is because these two episodes felt like they were about 40% catch up for those that were pulled in by the hype and just started watching, 10% reminder for the rest of us, and another 48% was calm before the storm. That last 2% I’m reserving for the nightmare pin-wheel Fire-child because holy shit that was just insane.
Borderlands 3 Reveal Trailer
The hype is reeeaaalarbarglearrrrrr! [dead]
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
As I can honestly say this has been one of the greatest, most enjoyable reading experiences of my life, I’ve had a really hard time figuring out where to start. I’ve had this book in just about every want-to-read list imaginable for years. It’s been in the back of my mind for so long that every now and then something would make it come forward and I’d think upon how I have yet to read it and then put it back where it came from.
Dear Stephen Hillenburg,
Thank you for this weird little sponge with his weird little pants. No matter how chaotic and loud his world became, he always saw the best in everyone and everything. No matter how mean things could be, how stupid, how dark, or how dangerous, he always found something of value in all of it. Thank you for all the awkwardness, the laughs, and the love your creation put into the world.
Original 1910 Frankenstein Restoration
The Library of Congress blog has announced that they have finally resored the original Frankenstein after 108 years. This is a pretty huge moment in early film history.
Love & Skyrim
Love is finding someone who looks at you as lovingly as Lydia the Housecarl looks at Uruk gro-Khar the Exiled.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
It is a beautiful, life affirming experience that everyone who plays games at all should try at least once. And always keep in mind that we don’t all see the world as it is. Love each other and be as understanding as you can to those who may not. Their every moment is a nightmare, and yet, they persist.
